    Holcim opts Berde Renewables in solar project 

    Listed cement maker Holcim Philippines Inc. has selected Berde Renewables to install and operate its rooftop solar facility on two of its plants.

    Berde Renewables, a distributed energy platform of I Squared Capital, will build, operate and maintain rooftop solar on Holcim plants in Bulacan and La Union with a combined capacity of 5.5 megawatts peak generating approximately 7.8 gigawatt-hours annually. 

    The facilities are expected to be commissioned in 2024 seen to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 5,500 tons of carbon dioxide per year. 

    The project will accelerate Holcim’s plan to reduce carbon emissions by 65 percent by 2030.

     the first rooftop solar project for the cement industry in the Philippines.Holcim Philippines president and CEO Horia Adrian said the company has hit a milestone by reducing its carbon footprint by 20 percent since 2018.

    “This project further strengthens our ability to support the Holcim group’s net zero direction and the country’s nationally determined contributions,” Adrian said.

    Berde Renewables develops, constructs and operates distributed renewable energy projects powering commercial and industrial customers in the Philippines.

    Holcim, soon delisted from the Philippine Stock Exchange, has cement plants in La Union, Bulacan, Batangas, Misamis Oriental and Davao. Berde Renewables, a distributed energy platform of I Squared Capital, will build, operate and maintain rooftop solar facilities on Holcim’s plants in Bulacan and La Union with a combined capacity of 5.5 MW peak and an annual generation of approximately 7.8 GWh.
