China solar technology provider Trina Solar has signed a master services agreement with the Citicore Group for the supply of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.
Under the agreement, Citicore through its engineering, procurement and construction arm MCC-Citicore Construction Inc., will purchase 700 megawatts (MW) worth of solar modules from Trina Solar for delivery in 2024 to Citicore Renewable Energy Corp.’s (CREC) solar plants across the Philippines.
The partnership will also involve Trina Solar’s flagship product Vertex solar photovoltaic (PV) modules developed for greater light absorption and high-density encapsulation to maximize the module’s surface area, among others.
The PV panels from Trina Solar is part of efforts to secure high-quality and efficient technology for the projects, helping it move towards the goal of 1 gigawatt of RE capacity annually as committed, said Oliver Tan, CREC president.
Todd Li, Trina Solar Asia Pacific president, said the latest agreement is their second collaboration with CREC.
Their first project was the deployment earlier this year of solar PV modules for the latter’s 125 MW Lumbangan and the 72 MW Luntal solar power projects both located in Batangas.
“The Philippines is a market with strong potential to harness solar energy for both consumer use and power production. We see enormous opportunities for the deployment of solar to help the nation move towards a green net-zero future,” Li said.
CREC aims to build a pipeline of projects of 5,000 MW over five years with target portfolio of 1,250 MW by early 2024.
CREC’s power projects include solar farms with capacity of 60 MW in Toledo, Cebu; 25 MW in Silay, Negros Occidental; 22 MW in Clark, Pampanga; 18 MW in Mariveles, Bataan; and 15 MW in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, among others.
