Shell Pilipinas all revved up for EV charging opportunities

Shell Pilipinas Corp. has secured stockholder approval to engage in the business of electric vehicle (EV) charging.

The company told the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) it secured approval in a special stockholders’ meeting on Tuesday.

Aside from selling various petroleum products, Pilipinas Shell directly engages in the EV charging business and various services related to electric battery charging.

It said the move is aligned with the transition to sustainable and cleaner energy solutions beyond petroleum products.

Earlier this year, Shell Pilipinas and affiliate, Shell Energy Philippines (SEPH) vowed before the Department of Energy (DOE) to deploy more EV charging stations starting with a pilot study on key areas like the supply, installation, operation, maintenance, monitoring, energy efficiency, performance and savings.

Data generated from the pilot project will serve as benchmark to develop and roll out the Shell Recharge EV charging network of existing and future retail stations and an opportunity to provide recommendations to the DOE.

Shell Pilipinas first launched a 100 percent RE-powered EV charging station in Mamplasan at the South Luzon Expressway in Biñan, Laguna.

The facility is powered by energy from SEPH through a mix of solar and hydro sources.
