DMCI Mining Corp. is all set to open two new mining sites next year.
Tulsi Das Reyes, DMCI Mining president, told reporters its mining operations in Zambales is scheduled to begin within the first three months next year.
Another mine is also scheduled to open in the second quarter in a location he did not disclose.
“Operations of one in Zambales in the first quarter next year is 100 percent certain. One hundred percent operational, backhoe on the ground that I’m 100 percent sure,” Reyes said.
DMCI Mining earlier said the Zambales Chromite Mining Co. (ZCMC) will operate the Zambales asset.
The mining firm acquired ZCMC from its British operators. The site produces nickel ore.
Officials said they are on track to hit record nickel production and shipments this year having had notable improvements in the first half.
Its January to June production output nearly doubled and jumped 98 percent from 567,000 wet metric tons (WMT) in 2021 to 1.12 million WMT this year and past last year’s output of 1.03 million WMT.
Ore shipments in the first-half totaled 1.06 million WMT or 73 percent of 1.45 million WMT in 2022.
In June, DMCI Mining targeted to ship 1.5 million WMT of nickel ore and produce between 1.7 million to 2 million tons of nickel ore this year.
Tulsi Das Reyes, DMCI Mining president, said the strong performance in the first six months may be traced to improved operational efficiency and permit timing.
