Grab Ph acknowledges compensation formula only slightly raises rider income

The National Union of Food Delivery Riders is urging Grab Philippines to reinstate some of its suspended delivery riders as the ride-hailing app committed to address their concerns.

Hundreds of food delivery riders earlier held a unity ride in Quezon City in protest of alleged unfair Grab management practices.

According to the riders, Grab’s new fare rate per order was reduced to P35 from the previous P45 and its distance-related compensation of P10 was reduced to only P7.

The riders’ predicament has already reached the attention of the government, particularly Congress and the Senate.

The issue of the riders’ illegal termination by Grab management is now being deliberated by the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC).

Sought for comment, Grab Philippines said they are aware of the concerns raised by some of its delivery partners following the recent restructuring of the earnings model.

“Our primary goal has always been to create a fair and sustainable environment, where partners are compensated for their efforts, especially considering the current macroeconomic changes,” Grab said.

“The new model was designed to address long-standing concerns about compensation for pick-up efforts and extended wait times while also providing a guaranteed minimum fare to protect our partners’ earnings,” it added.

The company said it is committed to ensuring that all its delivery-partners on the platform continue to earn substantially above the minimum wage.

“To date, Grab’s current earning model provides the most competitive earning potential for its partners as compared to that offered by other delivery platforms, and many of our partners attest that their average income has either remained at par or has slightly increased following the implementation of the new earnings model,” Grab said.

“Grab remains committed to an open dialogue and are dedicated to understanding and addressing our delivery partners’ concerns,” it added.

“To that end, we are open to constructive discussions with representatives of our delivery partners to hear their feedback and collaboratively work on practical solutions that serve the best interests of our entire Grab community,” Grab said.
