The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has tasked all 121 electric cooperatives (ECs) around the country to observe the target connection goals set out under the five-year electrification plan of the government.
The NEA urges ECs to harmonize their targets and monitor accomplishments in line with the 2024 – 2028 Total Electrification Roadmap and Distribution Development Plan.
Under the five-year electrification plan, the goal is to increase EC consumer connection in service areas nationwide by 1,359,610.
In its October 2023 energization status report, the NEA identified at least 16,281,177 potential consumer connections in EC franchise areas across the country, citing the 2020 Philippine Statistics Authority census.
The NEA in a separate memorandum also urged ECs to identify electrification solutions, energize each barangay and find those with low levels of electrification for prioritization and funding allocation.
The NEA supervises ECs nationwide. It monitors distribution system parameters such as systems loss and reliability, circuit kilometers and substation capacity to ensure the ECs remain operationally reliant and technically efficient in delivering services.
It has also been offering financial assistance through an enhanced lending program consisting of regular, calamity and concessional loans, stand-by and short-term credit loans, and single-digit system loss, renewable energy and modular generator set loans.
