P2.5B Rizal sewage treatment plant set for completion by year’s end

Manila Water Co. Inc. on Wednesday said the construction of its Hinulugang Taktak sewage treatment plant in Antipolo City is 60 percent complete and seen operational by December.

It said the P2.5 billion sewerage treatment project will help maintain ecological balance in the area by treating up to 16 million liters of wastewater from households daily before discharging them to the falls.

The facility will benefit 148,000 Antipolo City residents, specifically those from Barangays dela Paz, San Isidro, San Roque and San Jose.

“Aside from providing 24/7 water supply to our customers, sanitation remains at the forefront of our service improvement efforts. We believe that by providing quality sanitation, we are contributing to better community health and environmental sustainability in the province,” said Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water corporate communications affairs group director.

Earlier this month, the company started construction of the P1.39 billion Cayetano pumping station and reservoir in Taguig City ensuring uninterrupted water supply to over 1.6 million customers in Pasig, Pateros and Taguig.

The facility is seen completed by September 2025 and harness water from new water sources including the eastern flank of Laguna Lake and the Wawa-Calawis water supply system in Rizal.

With a reservoir capacity of 20 million liters, the Cayetano pumping station will also reduce the company’s dependence on Angat as water source for Metro Manila and address the rising need for water in Taguig and adjacent areas.

Manila Water serves customers in Makati, Pasig, Pateros, Marikina, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Taguig, some parts of Quezon City and Manila; and several towns in Rizal province that include Taytay, Teresa, Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, San Mateo and Rodriguez.

It has partnerships with water districts in Tagum, Davao del Norte; Bulacan; Clark in Pangasinan; San Jose in Nueva Ecija; Laguna; Boracay in Aklan; as well as with property developments through Estate Water.

Overseas, Manila Water has operations in Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Myanmar.
