Fish catch across all regional fish ports showed a 5.7 percent annual increase in December last year, according to the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA).
The PFDA said fish volume unloaded in December reached 47,952.79 metric tons (MT) versus only 45,355.24 MT a year earlier.
The fish catch in December last year was 3.6 percent lower than fish caught totaling 49,718.43 MT the previous November, which was the highest for the year.
The agency said the comparatively fewer fish catch in December was traced to the closure of fishing grounds as the season ended.
The fish ports under PFDA monitoring include Bulan in Sorsogon, Sual in Pangasinan, General Santos, Davao, Zamboanga, Lucena in Quezon Province, Iloilo, and Navotas.
