Alleged fare haggling temporarily shuts down inDrive operations

Newcomer ride-hailing app inDrive on Thursday temporarily suspended its operations to address issues raised by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on its fare system and user experience.

“We affirm our company’s commitment to provide better alternatives in transportation while ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, and we are actively collaborating with the authorities towards this end,” inDrive said in a statement.

The LTFRB earlier on Monday, 23 January, ordered inDrive to cease operations on charges of fare haggling expressly forbidden by the terms of its accreditation as a transportation network company.

The regulator has given the franchise to present proof of compliance within 15 days.

inDrive gave assurance it is even now further developing its app to ensure against confusion among its users and allow them to experience the best possible service.

“At inDrive we strive to achieve 100 percent user satisfaction and uphold the best interest of all our users. Our goal is to provide a fair, transparent, and accessible service while upholding the highest standards of regulatory compliance and user satisfaction,” inDrive said.

“As part of these ongoing improvements, we will temporarily pause our service operations. This is a necessary step to ensure that our enhancements are implemented effectively and align with both our users’ needs and the regulatory standards,” it said.

inDrive secured its accreditation as a transport network company (TNC) from the LTFRB in December 2023, enabling it to offer ride-hailing services in the Philippines.

inDrive initially proposed offering its services in the cities of Baguio, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan and Bacolod.

inDrive said it should soon activate its services in Metro Manila within first quarter this year.

The ride-hailing app is currently operating in more than 700 cities across over 46 countries and is the second-most downloaded mobility app.

In Southeast Asia, inDrive’s services are already being offered in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Laos.
