Globe widens coverage with signal-boosting equipment

Globe Telecom Inc. has bared a game-changing solution addressing long-standing challenges of cell site development resulting to expanded coverage in remote areas.

Called Spotlight Vega Antenna, co-developed with Comarcom Ltd. and Telkha Network Inc., boasts of a 200 percent signal boost and a 40 percent wider coverage range compared to traditional antennas.

The new technology was recently deployed in Tagaytay City, Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro, and San Fernando, La Union, marking significant advancement in 2G and 4G connectivity across the region. This technology upgrade potentially benefit nearly 250,000 residents in these localities.

“This innovative technology from our partners will help us fill coverage gaps in our network and, thus, help us give better service to subscribers,” Gerhard Tan, Globe’s head of Technology Strategy and Innovation, said.

Globe is focused on enhancing its network by leveraging sustainable technologies, including the advanced capabilities of this innovative antenna which promises to deliver a host of benefits.

The Spotlight Vega Antenna provides an average 40 percent better coverage range and a 30 percent improvement in signal quality over traditional panel antennas, as well as seamless integration, cost-efficiency, and maintenance-free operation. Users can expect download speeds up to four times faster and upload speeds twice as rapid, significantly reducing dropped calls and black spots in network coverage.
With the hyper gain antenna offering 200 percent signal amplification compared to conventional antennas, thanks to an unprecedented equal and above 21 dB gain, Globe subscribers are in for a game-changer. This is particularly true in remote areas where, historically, connectivity has been challenging due to site acquisition hurdles, zoning and regulatory issues, and business feasibility concerns.

“Globe creates opportunities to innovate and implement such creative solutions that are instrumental in addressing localized customer pain points. With that, not only do we attain customer satisfaction but also improve our services and likewise, integrate sustainability into how we operate as a company,” added Tan.

Poor connectivity in both rural and urban areas impedes development and inhibits critical areas of daily life, including work, school, healthcare provision, and emergency response, among others. This results in pronounced disparities, constraining individual and community growth.

The deployment of the signal-boosting antenna underscores Globe’s pledge to deliver uninterrupted connectivity across even the most demanding terrains, reinforcing its dedication to continuous innovation and solidifying its status as a leader in the telecom sector.
