Manila Water Co. Inc. said the P8.2-billion Calawis water supply system project (WSSP) is seen rounding the testing phase by May this year.
When that completes, the facility will provide up to 80-million liters per day (MLD) of treated water to 919,784 residents of Antipolo City and nearby towns.
The facility physically completed in June last year and already supplied potable water in some areas including the Antipolo Government Center even as tests continue.
Manila Water said the facility is equipped with an 80 MLD water treatment plant, pumping stations, reservoirs and a 21-kilometer primary transmission line.
The company also said the WSSP uses Degremont Compact Units which are prefabricated, modular water and wastewater treatment plants engineered for more efficient production, transportation and installation.
WSSP is part of Manila Water’s Wawa-Calawis Water Supply System that will bring an additional 518 MLD of water for customers in Antipolo City, Teresa and Baras in Rizal, Pasig, Taguig, Makati and portions of Manila.
The project will reduce dependency on Angat Dam which provides more than 90 percent of the water needs of Metro Manila and Rizal Province.
