Airlines declare themselves prepared for the surge in passenger traffic in weeks before and after Holy Week

The various airlines on Tuesday announced themselves ready for the surge of passenger traffic in the upcoming Holy Week holidays.

“We expect a large volume of passengers will travel by air to, from and within the Philippines during the coming Holy Week period,” Cielo Villaluna, spokesperson of Philippine Airline, said.

Villaluna urged passengers to come to the airport ahead of time due to a projected heavy traffic, especially in the big cities like Manila and Cebu.

AirAsia Philippines also bared full preparations in accommodating and safely flying its guests who are expected to visit the various provinces for their pilgrimage activities

To ensure uninterrupted operations during the Holy Week and the upcoming summer holidays, AirAsia Philippines has beefed up its manpower by hiring additional mechanics and ground staff to ensure quick aircraft turnaround and positive on-time performance.

Self check-in kiosks have also been provided for guests departing at the NAIA Terminals 2 and 3.

AirAsia Philippines also assured guests against overbooking where each guest is assured of a seat on all its flights.  The airline, however, urge the public to book their flights early for hassle-free travels.

“We would like to assure that everyone will be able to fly safely and conveniently during the holidays as we also understand the importance of the Holy Week to most of us. On top of the current manpower, we also have staff on standby who can be tapped to help during peak hours”, AirAsia head of communications and public affairs and first officer Steve Dailisan said.

The airline is also inviting its guests to try other domestic destinations, saying such destinations as Boracay, Cebu, Panglao, and Puerto Princesa will be crowded during the holidays.

More than 500,000 guests have already booked their flights to the cited destinations for travels until the end of May this year.

Other alternative destinations also offering an array of summer activities and sustainable places to visit include Davao, Roxas City, Iloilo, and Kalibo.

“Most of the locals from these destinations are traveling outbound during the Holy Week and the summer, which decongests most of their tourist attractions. This offers an advantage for guests coming from Metro Manila as they will be able to enjoy their vacation minus the crowd”, Dailisan said.
