Renewable energy developer Alternergy Holdings Corp. has awarded China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. (GEDI) and its local subsidiary, GEDI Construction Development Corp., the contract to build wind farms in the province of Quezon and Rizal.
The company said the engineering, procurement and construction contracts awarded on Monday should complete and be ready for operation by end-2025.
“A very extensive and meticulous tender process was conducted for the BOP EPC contracts for the Alabat and Tanay wind projects. A great deal of consideration was taken to ensure there will be synergies with both our supplier and contractor given our commitment and timeline under the Green Energy Auction 2 award,” said Knud Hedeager, Alternergy Wind Holdings Corp. president, in a statement.
GEDI has more than 700 EPC projects in more than 50 countries worldwide, including Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Easter Europe and Africa.
In China, GEDI engaged as EPC contractor in various wind projects with total capacity of more than 7,500 MW, of which 6,000 MW are offshore plus two onshore wind power projects in Vietnam with a combined capacity of 300 MW.
In the Philippines, GEDI is an accredited contractor of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines in various transmission projects, lines and substations.
Last year, Alternergy bared building up to 350 MW of renewable power in three to five years broken down as 33 MW solar, 220 MW onshore wind and 50 MW run-of-river hydro projects.
Recently, Alternergy completed preliminary studies and initial assessment on the feasibility of offshore wind energy projects with Shell Overseas Investment B.V.
Three or four sites showed promise and may be pursued further, it said.
