Philippine national men’s floorball team gears up for World Championship qualifiers

The Philippine  men’s national floorball team is looking to finish in the top 3 at the Asia-Oceania Floorball Confederation tournament set in Pasig City later this month to book a ticket for the 2024 Men’s Floorball Championship scheduled in December in Malmo, Sweden.

The national team is hopeful it could again qualify to the WFC and improve on its 15th place finish in the 2022 edition of world championship with the help of new recruits and veteran players, a couple of whom are already members of professional teams in Sweden, the current and 10-time world champion.

Except for a few additions, national team head coach Noel Alm Mendoza Johansson will be fielding a team composed of players who have competed in the last WFC and the team that won silver in the 2022 Southeast Asian Games.

Lucas Oijvall Perez, who plays as defender for the OnlineFactory Orcas in the Philippine Floorball League, will be team captain and help lead the four-day camp that will serve as final preparation for the WFC qualifying tournament scheduled May 21-25 at the PhilSports Arena.

This will be the third time for the Philippines to host an international event following the AOFC Cup in 2019 in Binan, Laguna ad the Southeast Asian Games in 2019.

A burgeoning sport in the Philippines, the national team is hopeful of another qualification and a better performance in the WFC will help the sport gain more popularity in the country and help in further development of the sport at the grassroots level.
