PAL adopts fuel-saving tool developed by OpenAirlines

The Philippine Airlines has tapped OpenAirlines and its fuel management system that allows PAL pilots to save on fuel.

The adoption is seen a step forward in the airline’s commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.

PAL is the first airline in Asia to adopt the company’s SkyBreathe OnBoard, a user-friendly digital solution that uses advanced algorithms to provide live assistance on fuel-saving initiatives in the cockpit.

The solution is part of the SkyBreathe eco-flying platform, the leading fuel management software today used by various airlines worldwide to reduce CO2 emissions and increase efficiency and savings. The tool is designed to engage pilots and achieve additional fuel savings on the go.

“Our dynamic partnership with OpenAirlines reinforces our commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration within the aviation ecosystem,” Stanley K. Ng, PAL president and chief operating officer, said.

“Since we started working with OpenAirlines in 2022 with the implementation of SkyBreathe Analytics, we have achieved significant fuel savings. We have decided to bring this partnership further by adopting the latest innovation from the platform, engaging pilots in applying fuel-efficient initiatives at the right time during the flight. We are convinced that bringing SkyBreathe OnBoard will further improve PAL’s operational performance,” he added.

By pioneering the integration of the fuel-saving tool, PAL strengthens its position as forward-thinking leader in the Asia-Pacific region, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.

During flights, pilots perform many tasks. But with the SkyBreathe OnBoard as added too, the various tasks are more easily performed and further unburdens pilots, Alexandre Feray, chief executive at OpenAirlines, explained.

“We trust the Philippine Airlines’ capacity to elevate fuel efficiency efforts and achieve remarkable savings,” he said.
