The Department of Agriculture has lifted the temporary ban on domestic and wild birds and their products including poultry meat, day old chicks, eggs and semen originating from the State of Ohio, United States of America.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. signed the memorandum order on Friday, rescinding the temporary import ban imposed in mid-January this year due to an outbreak of high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI).
The immediate lifting of the ban was based on the report submitted by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).
According to the report, all counties in the State of Ohio have successfully resolved avian flu cases, and no additional outbreaks have been reported after April 2. This clearance from the US veterinary authorities provided the necessary assurance for the DA to lift the import ban, allowing the resumption of trade in domestic and wild birds including poultry products from the State of Ohio, USA.
