Air Asia taking full advantage of emerging travel trend dubbed ‘travel journey’

AirAsia Philippines reported a surge in bookings in the first seven months of 2024, fueled in part by the itinerant tendencies of tech-savvy Gen Z and Millennial travelers.

The budget airline reported a total 1.10 million seats booked under various promos such as its PISO Sale and double digit monthly sales from January to July this year.

Of this figure, 340,000 were Gen Z’s and 480,000 were Millennials while the balance were Gen X and Boomers.

“Millennials and Gen Z’s are tech-savvy, while Gen X and Boomers are tech native. Technology always plays an important role in their decision making. 70 percent of online and over the App bookings for the first half of 2024 came from Millennials and Gen Z’s,”  AirAsia Head of Communications and Public Affairs and First Officer Steve Dailisan said.

“To cope with their travel needs, we need to stick to our working business model, our low fare philosophy that focuses on streamlined, simple, and efficient business operation with high regard for passenger safety. We will continue to offer the most competitive and affordable airfare, fueling their excitement for travel with our monthly offerings,” he added.

AirAsia Philippines is again offering more than 500,000 seats to all destinations and available until 28 July on base fare as low as P177 one-way for immediate travels until December 30, 2024.

AirAsia Philippines also noted that ‘revenge travel’ has recently been crossed out of the bucket list of travelers. An emerging trend dubbed ‘journey travel’ gives more emphasis on the guest’s travel experience from point A to point B.

Rather than focusing on the end destinations such as the famous beach resort of Boracay or a luxurious hotel in Bangkok, travelers now also focus on creating memorable experiences and discoveries along the way.

“This is where AirAsia also comes to play. With an array of destinations, accommodations, activities, and other modes of transportation available on the AirAsia MOVE app our guests can create the best memories”, Dailisan added.

AirAsia is one of the country’s top low-cost airlines. It flies to a total 12 domestic destinations and 13 international destinations as of April 2024.
