Meralco prioritizes safety as it restores power in typhoon, monsoon aftermath

Manila Electric Co., the country’s largest power distributor, said Thursday it has restored electric service to around half of the 600,000 customers affected by torrential rains and flooding brought by Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon on Wednesday.

Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco vice president and head of Corporate Communications, said the power distributor won’t energize its distribution lines until the areas it covers are determined safe.

“We ask for your patience and understanding as we address power disruptions due to severe flooding,” Zaldarriaga appealed to Meralco customers. He assured that Meralco’s crews are actively monitoring the situation and will deploy promptly to restore power once floodwaters recede and safety is ensured.

Meanwhile, One Meralco Foundation, the company’s corporate social responsibility arm, has mobilized employee volunteers for immediate relief efforts. Thousands of relief packs containing essentials such as rice, canned goods, coffee, and biscuits have been prepared. These packs have already been turned over to the Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to provide emergency aid to affected families.

Meralco assured its customers it is actively working to mitigate the impact of the recent weather disturbances, ensuring swift recovery and support for affected communities across its service areas.
