Ayala energy unit supplies RCBC Plaza 100% clean energy

ACEN Corp. subsidiary ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (RES) had been tapped to supply the RCBC Plaza in Makati with 100 percent clean energy.

RCBC Plaza has two office towers, four-level podium, a 450-seat auditorium, a museum, a 200-seat chapel, banking chambers, convenience and service shops, a food court, seven levels of basement parking, lecture and seminar rooms as well as an open-air courtyard.

The contract hurdled the Retail Competition and Open Access program allowing qualified electricity consumers the freedom to choose their electricity supplier. Neither ACEN RES nor RCBC disclose the details to the contract.

“We are delighted to partner with RCBC Plaza in their shift to 100 percent renewable energy. By choosing ACEN RES, they are enabling ACEN to develop more renewable energy capacity, help the country achieve its target to increase the share of renewables and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels,” said Eric Francia, ACEN president and chief executive officer.

The companies also said the partnership extends beyond securing renewable energy for RCBC Plaza as the Yuchengco group’s banking unit, RCBC, also helped enable ACEN’s pivot to renewable energy with the divestment of the South Luzon Thermal Energy Corp. through an energy transition mechanism.

“Transitioning to renewable energy aligns perfectly with our vision for RCBC Plaza. This decision not only benefits the environment but also positions us as the premier destination for environmentally-conscious businesses seeking a world-class office space with a commitment to sustainability,” said Lorenzo Tan, RCBC Realty Corp. president and chief executive officer.

RCBC Realty Corp. owns RCBC Plaza.

ACEN, as a group, is one of the fastest growing renewable energy platforms in Asia Pacific.

The company has effectively achieved its 2025 target of generating 5,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity, with 4,700 MW of installed projects and another 1,000 MW of signed agreements won via competitive tenders.

ACEN aims to increase its renewable capacity to 20,000 MW by 2030 to help provide clean, reliable and affordable energy to more people and be a net zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2050.

ACEN has projects in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, India, United States and Taiwan.
