Universal Robina Corporation’s (URC) subsidiary in Thailand has notched two more awards for its URGreen initiative aimed at slashing its carbon footprint, as well as protecting the environment through conservation.
For a second year in a row, URC (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was recognized by Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with a greenhouse gas reduction award.
This was after the company reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide in 2023 – equivalent to planting 833,333 trees – by turning to solar energy, recycling and waste segregation, and using organic waste for animal feed.
URC Thailand’s Factory No. 5 and Warehouse Raw Material 2 meanwhile, was granted by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization the privilege of using the Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) logo in recognition of its efforts to slash its greenhouse gas emissions.
“This year, URC once again shows its dedication to conducting business with consideration for people, communities, society and the environment,” said Tanant Suwanraks, Vice President and General Manager for Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia.
Building on these awards, URC Thailand also launched its URGreen Upcycling Uniform initiative to raise awareness about global warming among its own employees.
This project encourages staff to collect water bottles for recycling into new uniforms, which are then showcased in an internal fashion show.
Employees from diverse backgrounds are selected as models to highlight inclusivity and equality within the company.
For 2025, URC Thailand plans to produce an additional 4,800 recycled uniforms from 67,000 bottles, aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8,300 kilograms – equivalent to planting 700 trees.
“At URC, we believe in the power of collaboration. We have consistently instilled a sense of sustainability to the people, including our customers and employees, aiming to make the world a better place together,” said Tanant Suwanraks.
URC Thailand has also been winning awards for its products, apart from its environment-focused initiatives.
