Meralco unit highlights foam-and-mattress maker Uratex transition to EV

The Manila Electric Co. sustainable mobility arm Movem Electric Inc. (Movem) has partnered with foam and mattress maker Uratex Group of Companies to help meet the latter’s logistics requirements.

Movem turned over to Uratex an electric light delivery truck and a 60-kilowatt DC fast charger for its manufacturing plant in Plaridel, Bulacan.

The partners on Tuesday said the initiative supports Uratex’s plan to step up its adoption and deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) for delivering its products across the country.

Peachy Medina, Uratex managing director, said the company has since been gradually converting its internal combustion fleet of vehicles to EVs to achieve its zero-emissions goal.

“Movem assisted us from our initial inquiry, choosing the right model fit for our purpose, delivery, installation and trained our drivers and maintenance personnel. Movem gave us confidence that for all the uncertainties of this young technology, Movem will be behind us. With this kind of support, we know that this EV will be the first of many more to come,” said Medina.

Raymond Ravelo, Movem president and concurrent Meralco first vice president and chief sustainability officer, said the support extended to Uratex meets the requirements spelled out under the Green Energy Option (GEA) program of the government.

Meralco organized Movem only last year.
