Emperador partners with Meralco subsidiary in solar project

Emperador Inc.’s subsidiary, Emperador Distillers Inc. (EDI), has entered into a partnership with Manila Electric Co. subsidiary MSpectrum to install a 640 kilowatt peak solar facility at EDI’s manufacturing plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The new solar installation is expected to generate approximately 832,798 kilowatt hours of clean energy annually, significantly contributing to EDI’s sustainability goals. The project will allow the distiller to reduce its carbon footprint by an estimated 593.12 metric tons, which is equivalent to the environmental impact of planting over 27,242 trees and cutting more than 2.36 million kilometers of vehicle travel per year.

Winston Co, EDI president and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting, “The contract signing with MSpectrum is a continuation of the transformative journey of our business. Their solar rooftop installation will not only help us achieve our sustainability goals but also significantly reduce our electricity costs.”

The financial details of the project have not been disclosed. However, this initiative follows a previous successful partnership between MSpectrum and another EDI unit, Anglo Watsons Glass Inc., that resulted in a 2 megawatt peak solar photovoltaic system installed at its Canlubang plant earlier this year.

Patrick Henry Panlilio, COO of MSpectrum, highlighted the strategic benefits of the collaboration, stating, “This partnership allows us to leverage Emperador’s operational scale to implement impactful solar solutions. Through our tailored offerings and strategic alliances with leading technology partners, we are committed to delivering efficient, reliable and safe solar installations that enhance energy efficiency, reduce costs and contribute to a more sustainable future.”

MSpectrum has ambitious plans, aiming to secure up to 30 megawatts worth of new solar projects in 2024. The company’s ongoing and operational solar rooftop capacity has reached 70 megawatts as of June 2024, with commercial and industrial clients making up 98 percent of this capacity, primarily concentrated in Luzon.

Notable past collaborations by MSpectrum include projects with industry giants such as Philip Morris, Toyota, Ajinomoto, and PLDT, further establishing its footprint in the commercial and industrial solar power market.
