The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) head office in Manila has earned a prestigious 4-star sustainability certification under the Philippine Green Building Council’s (PhilGBC) “Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence” (BERDE) system. This marks the BSP-HO as the first existing government building to be recognized for improvements in its operations. The certification was awarded on 6 November 2024, during a ceremony at the BSP-HO.
BSP governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. expressed pride in the achievement, saying, “This recognition is a testament to our belief in the importance of sustainability. It is proof that we walk the talk.”
PhilGBC chairman Raymond D. Rufino emphasized the significance of the certification, noting its role in demonstrating the BSP’s ongoing commitment to sustainability to its various stakeholders.
The 4-star rating, signifying “Country Leader” status, is part of a scale ranging from 1 star for “Good Practice” to 5 stars for “World Class” performance. PhilGBC CEO Christopher C. de la Cruz praised the BSP’s efforts in transforming an existing building into an environmentally responsible one, hoping it will inspire more such green transformations across the country.
In 2022, the BSP-HO also received a 5-star rating from the Department of Energy (DOE) following an energy audit, further underlining its dedication to sustainable operations. As part of its Sustainable Central Banking Framework, the BSP continues to lead by example, advocating for energy-efficient and disaster-resilient building practices.
