Kim Jacinto-Henares to lead Basic Energy board

Kim Jacinto-Henares, the Philippines’ former top tax official, will become the chairwoman of Basic Energy Corp., a publicly listed company focused on renewable energy and alternative fuels. She is set to assume the role on 1 January 2025.

Prior to her appointment as chairwoman, Henares served as an independent director on the company’s board. A seasoned government official, Henares was the commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) from 2010 to 2016. She has also held leadership positions as governor of the Board of Investments and worked at ING Bank NV Manila Branch. Henares holds a Bachelor of Science in Commerce majoring in Accounting from De La Salle University Manila and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Ateneo de Manila University.

Along with Henares, Basic Energy’s board also elected Alberto Emilio Ramos, a veteran banker, as a new member. Ramos will take over the position previously held by Ramon Mapa, who resigned for health reasons.

In addition to leadership changes, Basic Energy’s board has approved the implementation of solar energy projects in Cadiz in Negros Occidental, Mariveles in Bataan, and Bolinao in Pangasinan. The company continues to expand its energy portfolio through subsidiaries, including RDG Wind Energy Corp., which operates a 50-megawatt solar farm, along with wind and battery projects.
