Globe champions PPP to accelerate digital transformation

At the GSMA Digital Nation Summit in Manila, Emmanuel Estrada, vice president of Globe Telecom, underscored the pivotal role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in accelerating the Philippines’ digital transformation. Speaking to industry leaders and government officials, Estrada emphasized that bridging connectivity gaps and leveraging technology for the greater good of Filipinos are essential to achieving lasting progress.

As a strong advocate for PPPs, Globe is actively involved in initiatives like the Connectivity Plan Task Force (CPTF), which aims to expand mobile network infrastructure across the country. The plan includes the deployment of over 150 new mobile sites and the introduction of satellite technology to serve remote regions. According to Estrada, the success of these initiatives hinges on the modernization of government policies, noting that outdated regulations often impede the rapid rollout of digital solutions.

One such policy change, Executive Order No. 32, has expedited the permitting process for telecom infrastructure projects, making it easier for companies like Globe to deploy networks nationwide. Estrada credited this reform for its role in helping Globe significantly enhance connectivity across the Philippines, with 96% of the population now covered by at least 3G or 4G networks.

However, Estrada was quick to point out that connectivity is just the first step. “To truly drive digital inclusion, technology must be used in ways that improve people’s lives,” he said, highlighting the need for digital solutions that address real-world challenges in education, healthcare, and finance. Globe, he added, is working to ensure that internet access goes beyond simply being available, but also becomes a tool for empowerment and long-term societal benefit.

In closing, Estrada reiterated that collaboration between the public and private sectors will be crucial in delivering a digital future that is accessible and beneficial to all Filipinos.
