Maynilad to Invest P30B in water treatment and pipeline projects

Maynilad Water Services Inc., the West Zone water concessionaire, has announced plans to invest P30 billion in key infrastructure projects in Rizal. The company’s chief operating officer, Randolph Estrellado, revealed that P10 billion will be allocated for the construction of a new water treatment plant, while P20 billion will fund the installation of pipes connecting the Kaliwa Dam to the plant and distributing water to customers.

Estrellado said the projects are critical to ensuring the timely delivery of water from the Kaliwa Dam, which is expected to be completed by 2028 or 2029. The projects are part of Maynilad’s P26 billion commitment for 2025 under its concession agreement.

However, Estrellado acknowledged challenges related to securing necessary permits, noting that obtaining approval for projects such as laying wastewater pipes can take over a year. Despite this, Maynilad has already secured land for the Teresa Water Treatment Plant and awarded contracts for pipeline works in Teresa and Morong. Additional contracts for pipes in Binangonan and the treatment plants will be awarded in 2025.

To fund these projects, Maynilad plans to use a mix of internal funds and bank financing. Estrellado said securing loans has become easier following the approval of rate adjustments that assure lenders on the company’s financial stability.
