Converge ICT launches ‘Countdown to Zero Waste 3.0’ to drive sustainable practices

Converge ICT Solutions Inc., a leading fiber broadband and technology provider, is stepping up its sustainability efforts with the launch of “Countdown to Zero Waste 3.0,” a new phase of its group-wide waste management campaign. The initiative aims to reduce landfill waste to zero by 2030 by focusing on effective waste segregation in its operations.

The new phase introduces a system of sorting waste into three categories: biodegradable, residual, and special waste. This move aligns with local regulations in Pasig, where the company’s headquarters is located, and further supports its broader sustainability goal of enhancing the reuse, recycling, and recovery of materials.

In addition to its internal efforts, Converge has partnered with Alon and Araw, a non-profit organization from Zambales dedicated to supporting coastal communities and tackling marine pollution. Converge will donate collected plastic bottles to the group and purchase upcycled trash bins made from the donated plastic.

Converge is also collaborating with Humble, a local climate tech firm, to recycle and resell its discarded IT equipment, reinforcing its commitment to a circular economy.

Benjamin Azada, Converge chief commercial officer and chief sustainability officer, emphasized the company’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint. “Among our sustainability targets is to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2030, and we are taking proactive steps to manage our solid waste from operations,” he said.

This latest phase builds on the company’s ongoing “Countdown to Zero Waste” campaign, which began in 2022 with efforts to manage electronic waste (e-waste), a growing concern in the Philippines, the third-largest producer of e-waste in Southeast Asia.

Looking ahead, Converge plans to install dedicated trash bins in all its common areas by next year as part of its waste segregation push, further solidifying its role as a sustainability leader in the tech sector.
