Mindanao International Container Terminal Services Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services Inc., has been granted a 25-year extension to operate and manage the Mindanao Container Terminal.
The new concession agreement, granted by the PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority, extends MICTSI’s rights to operate the terminal until 2058, a significant development for both the company and the region’s growing shipping industry.
Located in the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, MCT serves as a critical logistics hub for Mindanao, supporting both import and export activities.
The extension is seen as a strategic move to boost the terminal’s capacity and strengthen its infrastructure, with MICTSI committing over USD100 million to expand its operations. This investment will fund a 300-meter berth extension, along with the construction of additional support facilities and the acquisition of new equipment.
The expansion project will raise the terminal’s capacity from 350,000 twenty-foot equivalent units, the standard measure for containerized cargo, to accommodate the rising demand for cargo movement in the region.
The new berth will enable larger vessels to dock, supporting new shipping routes and catering to the evolving needs of Mindanao’s importers and exporters. The project aligns with PHIVIDEC’s broader goal of expanding its locator base and increasing regional economic activity.
With the extension, MICTSI is positioned to enhance its service offerings while fostering the growth of Mindanao’s supply chain network. The investment underscores the company’s confidence in the region’s economic potential, which is increasingly viewed as a vital gateway for trade in the Philippines and beyond. MICTSI’s parent ICTSI is the listed global port operator of tycoon Enrique Razon Jr.
