GSIS, MMDA join forces to tackle traffic woes

In a bid to enhance traffic management and road safety, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) recently signed a partnership agreement. The deal extends the use of GSIS properties for critical urban solutions, aimed at improving public services in Metro Manila.

Under the agreement, the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy will continue to operate at the GSIS Julia Vargas site, while the GSIS Tumana property in Marikina will be repurposed for traffic enforcement and vehicle impounding activities. The collaboration also ensures temporary office space for MMDA personnel impacted by ongoing construction projects.

GSIS President Wick Veloso hailed the partnership as a model for efficient urban governance, aligning with the administration’s “whole-of-government” approach. He emphasized that by working together, agencies can maximize resources and deliver more impactful public services. This partnership is seen as a key step towards smarter urban development, especially with major projects like the Metro Manila Subway and Quezon City Integrated Transport Hub on the horizon.

The signing ceremony, attended by both GSIS and MMDA leaders, underscored the power of inter-agency collaboration in addressing the growing challenges of urban life in Metro Manila.
