GCash, the Philippines’ leading mobile wallet, has partnered with Alipay+ and PayPay, enabling its users to make seamless QR-code payments at over three million merchants across Japan. This move significantly enhances the payment options available to Filipino travelers, particularly as Japan continues to rise as a top destination for Filipinos.
According to Paul Albano, GCash’s general manager for international operations, the partnership aims to provide a more convenient and secure payment solution for GCash users, particularly in Japan’s smaller towns and rural areas, beyond major cities like Tokyo and Osaka. With GCash now integrated into Alipay+’s expanded collaboration with PayPay, Filipino tourists can easily pay at local businesses—from izakayas to anime shops—via a familiar QR code scanning process.
GCash users benefit from competitive foreign exchange rates, zero service fees, and access to exclusive discounts through the app’s A+ Rewards program. A notable promotion for the holiday season includes a 10 percent discount (up to JPY 1,000) for users paying with PayPay QRs, valid from 20 December 2024 to January 10, 2025.
As travel demand surges, GCash is reinforcing its commitment to delivering a frictionless, cashless experience for Filipinos abroad, enhancing their travel convenience while supporting Japan’s tourism promotion.
