Meralco renews power pact with ABS-CBN’s MPower

Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has renewed its retail electricity supply agreement with ABS-CBN Corporation through its energy subsidiary, MPower. The deal, covering ABS-CBN’s key facilities in Quezon City, ensures a stable and cost-competitive power supply critical to the media company’s ongoing transition to digital and online platforms. MPower, which has supplied energy to ABS-CBN since 2013, reaffirmed its commitment to meeting the needs of high-demand commercial clients.

Redel Domingo, first vice president of Meralco and MPower head, emphasized the company’s role in supporting the growth of industries by providing tailored energy solutions. Though the deal’s specifics remain undisclosed, the partnership underscores the importance of reliable and competitively priced electricity as ABS-CBN expands its digital presence.

ABS-CBN, which continues to expand its online offerings such as the Kapamilya Online Live service, relies on MPower for consistent power supply as it adapts to the post-2020 loss of its free-to-air TV franchise. The renewal aligns with ABS-CBN’s broader digital transformation and international expansion strategies, particularly in key markets like Japan, Australia, and the UK.

Grant Orbeta, head of ABS-CBN’s Real Estate and Development Group, emphasized that the partnership supports the company’s mission to deliver high-quality entertainment to Filipinos globally.
