Maynilad pipe replacement project to boost water pressure, cut losses for 55,000 households

Maynilad Water Services Inc. is nearing completion of its P330-million pipe replacement project in South Caloocan, which promises to significantly improve water pressure and reduce water wastage for over 55,000 customers in the area.

Once completed by year-end, the project will elevate water pressure from a low 7 pounds per square inch (psi) to a much higher 16 psi, benefiting residents by enabling water to reach as high as the third floor of buildings without the need for booster pumps. This improvement is expected to provide much-needed relief to customers who have long struggled with inadequate water pressure.

The project involves replacing nearly 2 kilometers of old and leaking secondary and tertiary pipelines along General San Miguel Avenue in Sangandaan, Caloocan City. These upgrades are set to recover approximately 2.25 million liters of potable water daily—enough to supply 15,000 households—by reducing water losses from leaks.

“This initiative is part of our broader P11.2-billion investment in pipe replacement projects from 2023 to 2027, aimed at reducing water losses and ensuring more reliable service,” said Randolph Estrellado, Maynilad chief operating officer. “We remain committed to enhancing infrastructure that will lead to a more sustainable water supply for our customers.”

The project aligns with Maynilad’s ongoing efforts to modernize its water distribution network across its service areas, including Metro Manila and parts of Cavite. For consumers, the improved water pressure and reduced losses are expected to bring a more dependable water supply, which is critical amid growing demand in the region.
