DMCI Mining Corp., an emerging nickel producer, is set to significantly expand its operations this year with the operations to two more mines from a single operation in 2024.
The expansion includes the opening of the Zambales Chromite Mining Co. in Santa Cruz, Zambales, which began operations in December 2024. The ZCMC is expected to reach full production capacity by the first quarter of 2025, with an annual production limit of 1 million wet metric tons (WMT), as per its Environmental Compliance Certificate.
DMCI Mining is also preparing to restart operations at the Berong Nickel Corp. ‘s (BNC) Long Point mine in Aborlan, Palawan. The mine is in the final stages of securing its mineral production sharing agreement. Once operational, BNC’s Long Point mine will add substantial capacity to DMCI Mining’s output, further bolstering the company’s position in the nickel market.
“Our two new mines, ZCMC and BNC’s Long Point, mark a long-anticipated step forward for DMCI Mining. With increased production capacity and the Long Point port nearing completion, we are confident in delivering improved operational and financial performance this year,” said Tulsi Das C. Reyes, president of DMCI Mining.
DMCI Mining invested P634 million in capital expenditures last year and plans to allocate an additional P400 million in 2025 to support these expansions. The company is targeting a combined annual production capacity of 3 million WMT across its three mines, including the Zambales Diversified Metals Corp., subject to the necessary permit approvals for Long Point.
Meanwhile, BNC’s Quezon, Palawan mine, which was fully depleted in 2021, is undergoing a six-year rehabilitation program, with completion expected by 2027.
