2.6M budget passengers took to the air in January

Cebu Pacific (CEB) on Friday reported having carried 2.6 million passengers in January this year, a 33.4 percent surge in traffic from prior year.

The airline’s seat load factor (SLF) also improved to 86.5 percent from 85.1 percent, with seat capacity increasing by 31.2 percent.

Domestic passenger traffic rose 34.6 percent, driven by strong New Year holiday demand and supported by increased frequencies and new routes launched in 2024.

“January traffic saw strong passenger demand, fueled by holiday travel and the airline’s network and capacity expansion over the past year. CEB’s network now covers 124 routes, up from 104 in the same period last year. Load factor remained healthy, with international travel demand notably outpacing capacity growth,” Alexander Lao, CEB president and chief commercial officer, said.

The airline’s domestic network now spans 84 routes with 2,912 weekly flights, compared to 68 routes and 2,260 weekly flights in January 2024.

CEB’s domestic network has grown to 84 routes from 68 in the prior year, with 2,912 weekly flights, up 29 percent from 2,260 flights.

International passenger traffic saw a 29.9 percent increase, with a significant 8.4 percentage point rise in SLF to 85.1 percent due to demand outpacing capacity growth.

“Throughout this year, we are committed to optimizing our capacity to meet rising consumer demand, along with the need to manage the ongoing engine and supply chain issues,” he added.

In 2024, the airline carried  24.5 million domestic and international passengers last year, up 17.6 percent from  20.9 million  passengers in 2023.
