Customs seize P1.18B worth of smuggled goods in Valenzuela operation

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized around P1.18 billion worth of allegedly smuggled goods, including disposable vapes, vape pods, and other merchandise, in a Friday operation in Valenzuela. BOC Commissioner Bien Rubio confirmed the discovery, highlighting the importance of border control measures to ensure safe, regulated vape products.

In addition to the vapes, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) team found ukay-ukay (used) clothing, fans, phone chargers, Chinese food items, wireless headsets, syringes, office chairs, and wall panels, among other goods. These items were traced back to China.

The seized vape products alone were valued at P320 million, with excise taxes also due. CIIS director Verne Enciso emphasized that the operation prevented harmful and unregulated products from entering the market. The warehouse was temporarily sealed as authorities prepared for an inventory inspection.

The BOC has stated that the warehouse and shop owners could face charges under several laws, including the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
