GCash, the country’s leading finance super app, has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) to enhance data privacy awareness and provide vital educational resources to users nationwide. This collaboration underscores GCash’s commitment to promoting secure and accessible financial solutions while strengthening user trust through robust privacy measures.
The partnership aims to increase data privacy education and compliance with the Data Privacy Act (DPA). As part of the agreement, GCash will integrate NPC-provided privacy awareness materials into its Privacy Choices feature. This will allow users to easily access information on safeguarding their personal data directly within the app.
GCash president and CEO Ren-Ren Reyes emphasized the company’s dedication to upholding high standards of data privacy and security, stating, “This MOA with NPC underscores our commitment to upholding the highest standards of data privacy and security, strengthening the trust and confidence of our users.”
NPC commissioner John Henry Naga highlighted the importance of public-private collaborations in promoting a secure digital environment. “We look forward to implementing robust measures in increasing awareness on data privacy by providing the tools and knowledge that Filipinos need to make informed decisions in safeguarding their personal information,” Naga said.
In addition to incorporating privacy educational materials, the agreement includes the integration of the NPC’s Registration Portal into the GCash app. This feature will allow entities processing personal data to seamlessly register, promoting compliance with the DPA.
This collaboration aligns with GCash’s broader mission to empower users with tools that promote a secure digital landscape. By equipping Filipinos with data privacy resources, the partnership aims to foster trust and enable individuals to navigate the digital economy with confidence.
Beyond its partnership with NPC, GCash continues to work with key government agencies, including the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (DICT-CICC) to combat online fraud and scams.
