The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has confirmed that no new travel or security advisories have been issued by U.S. authorities against the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) or any other Philippine airport. This clarification follows the circulation of an outdated 2018 advisory at Sacramento International Airport in California, which was mistakenly displayed as a current warning.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon promptly contacted the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for clarification, leading to the removal of the erroneous information by 9:00 a.m. Manila time on Sunday. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the advisory, which had been lifted in 2019 after improvements to airport security, had been incorrectly included in TSA’s Sacramento monitor.
The 2018 advisory had been rescinded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in August 2019, after the Philippines successfully met international security standards. Since then, there have been no new advisories regarding NAIA.
Secretary Dizon emphasized the importance of addressing the issue swiftly to prevent confusion for travelers and reaffirmed the commitment of both the DOTr and NAIA’s private operator to uphold global aviation security standards.
