PAL emergency landing in Tokyo delays travel for hundreds of air passengers

TOKYO – Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR102, bound for Los Angeles from Manila, made an emergency landing at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport early Wednesday morning, temporarily stranding over 370 air travelers and crew.

The aircraft, carrying 359 passengers and 18 flight and cabin crew, was diverted to Haneda following initial reports of smoke emanating from one of the plane’s two air conditioning units. The flight, which departed Manila on April 9, landed safely in Tokyo at 3:30 AM local time.

Despite the successful landing, passengers remained on board for several hours before the aircraft was assigned a gate at 10:00 AM. PAL confirmed that all on board disembarked safely.

“Our ground operations team at Tokyo Haneda Airport is providing full support, including meals, baggage assistance, and arranging alternative flights to help passengers continue their journey,” PAL said in a statement.

The disruption affected travelers en route to the United States, many of whom are now experiencing delays in their international itineraries. PAL emphasized that safety remains its top priority and said it is cooperating fully with airport and aviation authorities as investigations continue.
