Motorists will feel a noticeable pinch at the pump starting Tuesday, as petroleum product prices surge by more than ₱1 per liter across the board — a sharp reversal following last week’s record price drops.
According to oil companies, gasoline prices will rise by ₱1.35 per liter, diesel by ₱1.30, and kerosene by ₱1.10. The adjustments come amid a rebound in global crude prices, driven largely by renewed geopolitical tensions and supply concerns.
Independent fuel retailer Seaoil implemented the hikes at 6 a.m., while PTT, Jetti, and Clean Fuel followed with similar increases for gasoline and diesel. Clean Fuel’s price changes will take effect at 4:01 p.m., while the others adjust as early as 6 a.m. Notably, Jetti and PTT do not offer kerosene.
As of 8 April, Department of Energy (DOE) data showed average pump prices in Manila at ₱56.35 per liter for gasoline (RON91), ₱53.10 for diesel, and ₱71.37 for kerosene. The year-to-date net increases now total ₱4.55 for gasoline, ₱4.45 for diesel, and ₱0.40 for kerosene.
Jetti Petroleum president Leo Bellas attributed the uptick to multiple global pressures, including renewed U.S. sanctions on Iran and planned output cuts by OPEC and allied producers. “There’s also reduced supply as many refineries undergo maintenance during this season,” Bellas added.
DOE Oil Industry Management Bureau director Rodela Romero also pointed to easing trade tensions between China and the U.S. as a bullish factor for oil prices, noting that “China remains the world’s top petroleum importer.”
With prices rising again, motorists are urged to monitor advisories and consider fuel-saving measures as the global market remains volatile.
