CIMB resolves unauthorized transfers as BSP ensures oversight and consumer protection

CIMB Bank Philippines reported having fully resolved an incident involving unauthorized fund transfers that occurred on the night of 26 April, with all affected customers now reimbursed, the bank announced on Sunday. In a statement, CIMB said that its core banking systems and customer data remained secure and uncompromised.

The bank reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its systems and ensuring customer security remains its top priority. “We regret any inconvenience this incident may have caused and want you to know that we are taking all necessary steps to strengthen our systems further,” CIMB said. It also thanked its customers for their patience and encouraged those needing further assistance to contact its customer care hotline or use the support feature on its app.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), which regulates CIMB and the broader financial system, confirmed that it is closely coordinating with the bank regarding the incident. The central bank noted that CIMB had begun restoring customer balances shortly after the issue emerged and assured the public it will continue monitoring the situation until it is fully resolved.

The BSP reiterated its commitment to upholding financial system security and consumer protection. Deposits with CIMB remain insured by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) for up to P1 million per depositor.
