Globe, gov’t agencies unite to prevent fiber cuts in CDO

Globe has bolstered its collaboration with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the local government of Cagayan de Oro to curb fiber cuts resulting from roadworks—an issue that caused 54 disruptions in 2024, the highest in Northern Mindanao.

The partnership operates under an inter-agency task force led by CDO mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, who praised Globe for being the first telco to support the initiative. Uy said that fiber cuts disrupt not just connectivity but also public service delivery and the local economy.

NTC Region 10 director Teodoro Buenavista Jr. also said improved coordination among stakeholders as key to preventing accidental damage to underground and aerial fiber infrastructure. He called the task force a replicable model for other local government units.

DPWH Region 10 director Lilibeth Aparecio added that the agency has realigned district engineers and contractors to avoid damaging fiber lines during construction.

Globe’s Joel Agustin, head of service planning and engineering, expressed gratitude for the joint effort, stressing the importance of protecting essential digital infrastructure.

With 14 fiber cut incidents already recorded in early 2025, the task force continues its mission to achieve zero disruptions through consistent collaboration and planning.
