PAL, Alaska Air in loyalty tie-up to boost US-PH connectivity

Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Alaska Airlines (AS) have entered into a loyalty program partnership aimed at enhancing travel flexibility and expanding market reach across the United States and the Philippines. The agreement underscores both carriers’ efforts to strengthen their frequent flyer offerings and network connectivity.

Announced this week, the collaboration will enable members of PAL’s Mabuhay Miles and Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Planto earn and redeem miles on each other’s flights starting in the coming months. This move gives travelers broader options and reinforces the carriers’ appeal to high-value, frequent flyers.

“This strategic collaboration significantly expands our network and flight options,” said Alvin M. Miranda, PAL vice president for marketing. “It’s an exciting step forward in enriching the overall travel experience we offer.”

From the U.S. side, Andrew Harrison, chief commercial officer at Alaska Airlines, highlighted the commercial significance: “Philippine Airlines is a terrific addition to our roster of global airlines. The large Filipino communities in Hawaii, California, and Washington state will benefit from enhanced connectivity and earning opportunities on long-haul flights.”

The partnership will leverage PAL’s U.S. West Coast hubs — Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle — as well as Honolulu, to offer seamless connections into Alaska’s expansive domestic network. This aligns with PAL’s broader growth strategy in the U.S. market, where it operates the largest network of nonstop flights from the Philippines.

In addition to loyalty integration, both airlines are exploring expanded cooperation through reciprocal codeshare arrangements, which would further improve access to key cities across both networks.

The agreement will also complement PAL’s existing relationship with Hawaiian Airlines, another Alaska Airlines Group member. Under the expanded arrangement, Hawaiian’s Mileage Plan members will gain the ability to earn and redeem miles on PAL-operated flights.

As the Philippines’ sole full-service international carrier, PAL continues to pursue strategic alliances to enhance its global competitiveness and deliver more seamless travel experiences for its passengers.
