Yuchengco-led Rizal Green Energy Corp. (RGEC) has formally launched a pilot agrivoltaics project at its 19.6 MWDC San Jose Solar Power Project (SJSPP) in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija—marking a local first in integrating solar power and crop cultivation on a commercial scale.
The 2,750-square meter test site features 588 elevated solar panels co-located with vegetable, herb, and ornamental plant farming. The initiative was rolled out by San Jose Green Energy Corp. (SJGEC), an RGEC subsidiary, in collaboration with Central Luzon State University (CLSU) and the San Jose City Agriculture Office.
RGEC, a joint venture of PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) and Japan’s Taisei Corp., underscores the pilot’s potential to enhance land-use efficiency, support community livelihoods, and pioneer climate-smart agricultural energy solutions. PGEC AVP Yrel V. Ventura highlighted the model’s potential to reduce water evaporation and improve crop yields, aligning with PGEC’s commitment to sustainable innovation.
Corporate and public sector representatives—including CLSU, the Department of Agriculture, and the DENR—emphasized the project’s replicability and socioeconomic benefits. Local women’s groups will manage crop sales, adding livelihood value to host communities.
Taisei’s Kazuhito Tani called the pilot a “perfect example” of energy-agriculture synergy, while San Jose mayor Kokoy Salvador assured continued municipal support for the venture’s long-term impact.
