Maynilad completes P218M QC pipe project

Maynilad Water Services Inc. has completed a ₱218-million pipeline replacement project in Quezon City, marking a milestone in its efforts to modernize Metro Manila’s aging water infrastructure and improve service delivery.

The West Zone concessionaire said it replaced three kilometers of deteriorating pipelines in five barangays—Greater Fairview, Holy Spirit, Maharlika, Pag-Ibig sa Nayon, and San Jose—helping cut daily water losses by about 3.14 million liters. This volume is enough to supply the daily needs of approximately 21,000 customers.

The upgrade also improved water pressure to between 7 and 11 pounds per square inch, enabling supply to reach second and third-floor fixtures without requiring booster pumps—a key benefit for residential and commercial users.

“This project underscores our commitment to investing in long-term solutions for water sustainability,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez, who credited the swift permit approvals from local government units for minimizing disruptions.

The Quezon City project is part of Maynilad’s broader non-revenue water program, which saw 142 kilometers of pipelines replaced in 2023 alone, backed by a ₱6 billion investment. To date, the company has upgraded roughly 70% of its pipe network in the West Zone.

Since its re-privatization in 2007, Maynilad has replaced around 3,264 kilometers of old pipes—equivalent to the distance from the Philippines to Japan. The company is the country’s largest private water concessionaire by customer base, serving key areas in Metro Manila and parts of Cavite Province.
