Meralco on full alert for midterm elections, ensures power stability for voting public

As the nation gears up for the 2025 midterm elections, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced it is on full alert to ensure uninterrupted power supply to over 3,000 polling precincts, canvassing centers, and critical election sites across its franchise area.

With elections scheduled for 12 May, Meralco, led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, has mobilized personnel and field crews to respond swiftly to any potential electricity service issues. The utility giant emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process through stable power delivery.

“Historically, Meralco’s franchise has had no major troubles during elections. Nonetheless, we have put in place contingency measures in case of isolated outages or service interruptions,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications. “Our personnel across the organization will be ready to respond 24/7.”

Zaldarriaga also noted that crews have been strategically deployed, supported by over 160 generator sets and 470 floodlights, to bolster preparedness and ensure rapid response capabilities.

To minimize avoidable disruptions, Meralco urged the public to avoid flying kites near power lines and reminded polling station staff not to use extra electrical appliances like rice cookers and electric fans that could overload the system.

The company has been coordinating since last year with the Commission on Elections, the Department of Energy, and other stakeholders to ensure election readiness. Part of this effort included early inspections and maintenance of school facilities designated as polling sites.

Voters and the public are encouraged to report any electricity-related concerns via the MyMeralco app, through Meralco’s official social media channels, or by contacting its hotline at 16211 and 8631-1111.
