Report ties cybersecurity innovation to climate action and shareholder value

Fortinet®, a global leader in cybersecurity, has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting substantial strides in environmental responsibility, cybersecurity innovation, and workforce development—underscoring the business and commercial importance of sustainable digital security.

The report outlines Fortinet’s strengthened alignment between technology innovation and corporate responsibility, with initiatives designed to enhance global cyber resilience while reducing environmental impact. Key takeaways include the validation of near-term climate goals by the Science Based Targets initiative, showcasing Fortinet’s trajectory to align with the 1.5°C global warming limit. Notably, the company’s latest FortiGate models have achieved an average 61 percent improvement in energy efficiency, and its transition to FSC-certified, plastic-free packaging across 86 top-selling products has avoided 387 metric tons of CO₂e emissions.

From a commercial perspective, these efforts reflect growing investor and customer demand for sustainable business practices. Fortinet’s inclusion for a third consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices and an improved CDP Climate score (from B- to B) enhance its ESG credentials—factors increasingly tied to long-term shareholder value and procurement decisions.

Michael Xie, Fortinet Founder, President, and CTO, emphasized the strategic importance of cybersecurity in a digitally transforming world: “Fortinet is committed to having our products, services, and people contribute to building a more secure and sustainable society.”

Fortinet also demonstrated impact in human capital development by training over 630,000 individuals since 2022 through its Training Institute, aiming to reach 1 million by 2026. Partnerships with bodies such as the European Commission’s Cybersecurity Skills Academy and the World Economic Forum highlight the company’s role in shaping the future cybersecurity workforce—a key commercial advantage as skills shortages continue to constrain the sector.

Regionally, Fortinet Philippines is driving the local implementation of these global goals. Country Manager Bambi Escalante reaffirmed the alignment of Philippine operations with Fortinet’s broader sustainability agenda, spotlighting initiatives in energy-efficient tech adoption and cybersecurity education.

Through expanded engagement with global organizations such as INTERPOL and CISA, Fortinet also contributed to the disruption of 134,000+ malicious networks and recovery of USD44 million in 2024, reinforcing the value of public-private collaboration in cybercrime mitigation.

The report references leading disclosure frameworks including the TCFD, GRI, SASB, and the UN SDGs, and tracks progress across eight priority issues—from business ethics to innovation.

As Fortinet continues to bridge the gap between cybersecurity and sustainability, the 2024 Sustainability Report reflects a clear message: responsible business is not just ethical—it’s commercially strategic.
