Phinma posts 27% 1Q net income growth, eyes expansion in education, housing

Diversified conglomerate Phinma Corp. reported a 27 percent year-on-year increase in first-quarter net income, reaching ₱562.62 million from ₱490.53 million in the same period last year, driven by strong performance in education and construction materials despite losses in its construction and property development segments.

In a disclosure on Tuesday, Phinma said consolidated revenue rose 21 percent to ₱6.6 billion from ₱5.45 billion, underscoring the company’s expanding commercial footprint across multiple sectors.

Phinma chairman and CEO Ramon R. del Rosario Jr. expressed confidence in the company’s growth trajectory, citing “expected higher enrollment in education, accelerated project completions, and the strategic launch of its community housing unit” as key drivers. The firm has allocated ₱3.8 billion in capital expenditures for 2025 to support its business initiatives aimed at underserved communities.

Phinma Education Holdings Inc. continued to serve as a core earnings engine, contributing ₱2.1 billion in revenue and ₱907.35 million in net income. Enrollment for the second semester of SY 2024-2025 rose 5 percent to 137,498 students, while retention remained robust at 89 percent.

Phinma’s Construction Materials Group, which includes Union Galvasteel Corp., Philcement Corp., Union Insulated Panels Corp., and Phinma Solar Energy Corp., generated ₱3.87 billion in revenue on the back of increased sales volumes. However, higher operational and financing costs led to a net loss of ₱69.71 million.

While Phinma Property Holdings Corp. grew revenue to ₱411.96 million through new and carried-over sales, it posted a net loss of ₱100.61 million for the quarter. To address the national housing backlog, the parent firm approved a ₱250-million investment in Phinma Community Housing Corp.

The hospitality unit — comprising Coral Way City Hotel Corp., Phinma Hospitality Inc., and Phinma Microtel Hotels Inc. — reported ₱136.34 million in revenue and ₱5.23 million in net income, buoyed by strong leisure and corporate demand and rising room rates.

Despite challenges in certain segments, Phinma’s diversified portfolio and ongoing strategic investments place it on a firm footing for sustained commercial growth.
