Digital Edge powers NARRA1 with hydroelectric energy

Digital Edge (Singapore) Holdings Pte. Ltd., a Stonepeak-backed data center operator, has partnered with the Philippines’ top renewable energy provider, First Gen Corp., to power its flagship NARRA1 data center with hydroelectric energy. The agreement marks a pivotal move in advancing green digital infrastructure in Southeast Asia.

Located in Biñan, Laguna, the 10MW NARRA1 facility—developed jointly with the Philippine-based Threadborne Group—will be supplied with clean electricity from First Gen’s Pantabangan-Masiway and Casecnan hydro complexes. As one of the most sustainable data centers in Asia, NARRA1 holds both LEED Gold and EDGE certifications and houses 2,200 cabinets across 12 data halls.

Digital Edge Philippines country manager Vic Barrios emphasized the commercial and environmental significance of the deal, saying that powering NARRA1 with hydroelectricity strengthens their commitment to sustainable operations while meeting rising demand for data infrastructure.

First Gen, whose energy portfolio spans nearly 1,700 MW of renewables and 2,000 MW of natural gas capacity, supports the partnership as part of its strategy to provide low-emission, cost-efficient, and reliable power solutions to corporate clients. Carlo Vega, First Gen chief customer engagement officer, highlighted the company’s role in ensuring both operational reliability and carbon reduction for high-energy consumers like data centers.

The collaboration underscores a growing trend in the region—corporate investment in renewable-powered infrastructure to meet both digital growth and sustainability goals.
