MSpectrum Inc., the renewable energy arm of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), is deepening its collaboration with Southeast Asia Retail Inc., the operator of Landers Superstore, with the rollout of two new solar rooftop installations in Cebu and Quezon City.
On Thursday, MSpectrum confirmed it will install a 600-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar system at Landers Cebu and a 930-kWp rooftop project at Landers Fairview. These developments mark a strategic expansion of their clean energy partnership and underscore the increasing role of corporate solar adoption in the country’s energy transition.
The Cebu facility is projected to generate 960,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy annually, translating into a reduction of 683.71 metric tons (MT) of carbon emissions—equivalent to planting more than 31,000 trees or cutting over 2.72 million kilometers in vehicle travel per year. Meanwhile, the Fairview project is expected to produce 1.19 million kWh of power yearly, offsetting 845.95 MT in carbon emissions, or the equivalent of planting nearly 38,000 trees and eliminating over 3.37 million kilometers in vehicle emissions.
“This solar initiative is not only about reducing operational costs, but also about contributing to the country’s efforts in promoting clean energy,” said Pieter Dhoni Lukman, Southeast Asia Retail’s chief operating officer. “Sustainability is a growing priority not just for the company, but for me personally as well.”
While financial terms were not disclosed, both firms indicated that the projects are targeted for completion within the year. They also confirmed that these are not their first collaborative solar ventures.
“These installations will significantly help reduce carbon emissions, optimize energy consumption, and generate cost savings that can be reinvested into enhancing customer experiences and operational efficiency,” said Ma. Cecilia Domingo, president and CEO of MSpectrum.
The announcement reflects a growing trend among commercial and industrial players in the Philippines to integrate solar power into their operations, particularly as energy prices rise and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics gain prominence with investors and consumers.
MSpectrum currently has over 80 megawatts of installed solar rooftop capacity across the country, supplying renewable energy to the equivalent of about 40,000 households.
