GT Capital banking, auto units boost Q1 profit

GT Capital Holdings, Inc., the Ty Group’s listed investment holding company, reported a consolidated net income of Ph9.14 billion for the first quarter, a 29 percent increase from the same period last year. The growth was largely driven by the strong performances of its core banking and automotive businesses.

Excluding non-recurring gains, core net income reached P8.70 billion, up 27 percent year-on-year, signaling solid operational gains.

“Our first quarter results have surpassed the already record-setting performance in 2024,” said GT Capital President Carmelo Maria Luza Bautista. “With easing inflation, resilient consumer spending, and stable foreign exchange conditions, we’re confident in sustaining this positive momentum throughout 2025.”

The group’s performance was anchored by Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company (Metrobank), which posted P12.3 billion in net income, backed by strong loan growth, trading gains, and controlled costs. Pre-provision operating profit rose 8.8 percent to P18.8 billion.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) also delivered a standout quarter, with net income soaring 57 percent to P6.33 billion. TMP sold 55,513 units from January to March, capturing 47 percent of industry sales. Lexus continued to lead the luxury segment, while electric vehicle sales surged 37 percent year-on-year, driven by Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to sustainability.

Property arm Federal Land, Inc. saw reservation sales climb 49 percent to P5.9 billion, buoyed by strong demand for commercial lots. Its joint venture with Japan’s Nomura, Riverpark North in Cavite, achieved a 90 percent take-up rate at launch and sold out by May.

Meanwhile, Metro Pacific Investments Corp., an affiliate company, posted a P6.6 billion core net income, up from P5.6 billion a year earlier.

With robust performance across key sectors, GT Capital is optimistic about sustaining its growth trajectory in the face of evolving economic conditions.
